  1. What is a school by definition?

    Article 1 of KHDA’s Order No. 1 concerning the special conditions for licensing schools defines schools as every educational institute carrying on the education profession in all of its different levels and types from kindergarten to the end of secondary education in accordance with a curricula approved by the Authority, which is either domiciled in the Emirate, or its principal domicile is outside the State and provides the education profession through centres, branches or through its agents in the Emirate.

    Simply put a school is one that provides K-12 education to students and young learners between the ages of three and 18 and has the required facilities to deliver the curriculum of choice.

  2. How many private schools are there in Dubai?

    At the time of writing this, there are 146 private schools in Dubai offering K-12 education to over 180,000 children.

  6. Does KHDA ensure quality education at these private schools?

    Yes. The Dubai Schools Inspection Bureau (DSIB) inspects schools every year to ensure that schools deliver quality education to their students irrespective of the curriculum offered. Click here to know more about DSIB and the inspection process.

  7. Are school-leaving certificates issued by Dubai’s private schools attested by KHDA?

    Yes. All school going students in Dubai are registered in the school system with KHDA. Usually, schools provide this service to the students and facilitates the attestation of school-leaving certificates.

  8. Is KHDA’s Educational Services Permit a must?

    Yes. In order for private schools to operate in Dubai they must hold a valid Educational Services Permit at all times.

  9. Am I allowed to establish a new private school in a free zone?

    Yes. A new private school can be established in a free zone under the remit of KHDA.

  14. What is the validity of the Permit?

    All Educational Services Permits issued by KHDA are valid for a period of one year and are renewable thereafter upon successful completion of the renewal requirements.

  15. Are schools allowed to restructure their fees every year?

    School fee restructuring is governed by the KHDA in line with the framework from the Ministry of Education. Fee related regulations are applicable to schools that have been in existence for more than three years. Newly established schools are obligated to a no-fee-change policy for the first three years, after which KHDA fee related regulations will apply.

  16. As parent or a student, if I have a concern about a particular private school, where can I raise my concerns?
